Bodegas Marqués de Riscal, founded in 1858 by Camilo Hurtado de Amézaga, is a prestigious Spanish winery located in Elciego, Rioja Alavesa. The winery is recognized for its innovation and production of high-quality wines, applying French winemaking techniques since its inception.
Marqués de Riscal is famous not only for its wines but also for its architectural landmark, the Hotel Marqués de Riscal, designed by Frank Gehry. Part of the Ciudad del Vino complex opened in 2006, this hotel features a distinctive modern design with titanium ribbons and offers luxury accommodation in the middle of vineyards.
The winery produces a wide range of wines, including reds such as Marqués de Riscal Reserva and Gran Reserva, and whites such as Sauvignon Blanc and Verdejo. It also has a significant presence in the Rueda area, where it played a crucial role in the establishment of the Rueda Designation of Origin for white wines in 1980.
The Marqués de Riscal visitor experience is extensive and includes tours of the vineyards and wineries, wine tastings and the exclusive Vinothérapie Spa. The winery is a prominent destination in the Rioja region and combines traditional winemaking with contemporary luxury and innovation.
