Marqués de Riscal Winery, founded in 1858 by Camilo Hurtado de Amézaga, is a prestigious Spanish winery located in Elciego, Rioja Alavesa. The winery is renowned for its innovation and production of high-quality wines, employing French winemaking techniques since its inception.
Marqués de Riscal is famous not only for its wines but also for its architectural landmark, the Hotel Marqués de Riscal, designed by Frank Gehry. This hotel, part of the Cité del Vino complex inaugurated in 2006, features a distinctive modern design with titanium ribbons and offers luxury accommodations amidst vineyards.
The winery produces a wide range of wines, including reds such as Marqués de Riscal Reserva and Gran Reserva, and whites such as Sauvignon Blanc and Verdejo. It also has a significant presence in the Rueda region, where it played a crucial role in establishing the Rueda Designation of Origin for white wines in 1980.
